Westin Grand Cayman

The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa, formerly the Westin Casuarina, is a resort hotel on Seven Mile Beach on the island of Grand Cayman.

History

Construction of the $50-million Grand Cayman Marriott Beach Resort was announced by Kentucky-based hotelier Columbia Sussex in November 1994.[1] Before opening, the property's Marriott affiliation was replaced with Westin Hotels.[2] The resort opened in December 1995.[3]

In 2010, the resort was reported to be facing foreclosure as demand was in a slump and Columbia Sussex struggled under $2.4 billion of debt.[4] By February 2011, local company WMC and American hotel operator Pyramid Hotel Group had been appointed receivers of the property, and Columbia Sussex was no longer involved.[5]
