Westwood High School is a public four-year high school located in Westwood, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, in the United States. It is fed by the E.W. Thurston Middle School. The school consistently ranks as one of top educating institutions in the state, ranking 5th among public schools and 134th nationally, according to Newsweek.[2]

History

Originally built in 1957, the old school was demolished in 2005 and a new one was constructed at a cost of $45M. The gymnasium and swimming facility from the old school were refurbished and are now part of the new high school campus. The school facilities also include a new multi-use artificial turf field (named after former principal and teacher Charles Flahive) with a synthetic track, both of which are open to the public. A second multi-use turf field, referred to as the "multi-purpose" field, is located behind the student parking lot.

The part of the school that faces Nahatan street is not the front of the school, but rather the back. The front of the school faces the fields behind the school which overlook the wooded Lymans Pond.

Athletics

Westwood High School's mascot is the wolverine. Westwood competes in the Tri-Valley League (TVL), which includes Ashland, Bellingham, Dover-Sherborn, Holliston, Hopkinton, Medfield, Medway, and Millis. Medfield is a WHS rival, as well as Holliston, who the football team plays every Thanksgiving. The student fan section is referred to as the Den.

WHS's sports teams continually perform well in the TVL and in state tournaments. Recent state championships include 2016 & 2014 girls lacrosse, 2015 boys hockey, 2014 girls hockey, and 2012 golf.

During the summer of 2016, new turf was put down on Flahive field, with the new W logo at center field. In addition, the gymnasium floor was also re-done.
