Epinephelus ongus
(Bloch, 1790)

Epinephelus ongus, commonly called white-streaked grouper or specklefin grouper among various other vernacular names, is a species of marine fish in the family Serranidae.[2]

The white-streaked grouper is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific area from the eastern coast of Africa to the Tonga Islands but is not present in the Red Sea.[3]

This grouper is a medium-sized fish, it can grow up to 40 centimetres (16 in) length.[4]

Groupers, as other fish, have usually a number of parasites.[5][6] Not much is known about the parasitological fauna of the white-streaked grouper. In New Caledonia, it has a diplectanid monogenean on its gills, Pseudorhabdosynochus quadratus,[7] which is specific to it.
