William Machado de Oliveira or simply William (born August 24, 1976) is a retired Brazilian central back.

Origins

Player began his career in Sete de Setembro. Passed by Ipatinga and Sports was hired by Cruzeiro in 2000-2001. But his spell at the club lasted little miner, came the next year to go to Cabofriense, Rio de Janeiro to compete in the Campeonato Carioca.

In 2002, he returned to Minas Gerais this time to play in América-MG. Spent by other clubs for a short period of time, as Francana, Portuguesa, Joinville and Sport Club do Recife, to get to Ipatinga. The club's Steel Valley, was highlighted by winning the Campeonato Mineiro in 2005, making one of the goals in the final against Cruzeiro in full Mineirão.

Grêmio

In 2006, after a good pass by Ipatinga was hired by the Grêmio in Rio Grande do Sul coach Mano Menezes, the first club in a long time it was over one year (the last was the Ipatinga in 1999 and 2000). With status of "xerifão" the central defense of the tricolor, was for two years at the club where he won two Campeonato Gaúcho (2006 and 2007) and a deputy of the Libertadores (2007). In the Grêmio gained confidence, support, credibility and praise from fans, press and the coach Mano Menezes.

Corinthians

In 2007, after the arrival of Mano Menezes to Corinthians and the demand of time for players to form their defensive sector, William, who had worked and had credibility with Mano Menezes ended up being requested by the coach and hired by Corinthians. He was hired for a period of 6 months with possibility of extension, which was later made. With the departure of Betão to Santos, William was chosen as team captain. With the Timão he was runner-up on the Brazil Cup in 2008. On November 8, 2008 he won the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B with Corinthians. In 2009 they won the Campeonato Paulista (undefeated), and the Copa do Brasil. In 2010, the captain led a campaign in conjunction with the then sponsor of the club, to help the people who suffered from the earthquake in Haiti.

William played at under-17 national team along with Ronaldo Fenomeno.
