Wycherley International School

Wycherley International School is a private co-educational day school located in the heart of Colombo, Sri Lanka. The school was established in 1985, and quickly became a well known private school in Sri Lanka. The school is divided into two campuses, the Junior School (located in Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7) and the Senior School (located in Queens Road, Colombo 3). The current principal from 1995 is Kingsley Jayasinghe and the former principal is Frank Jayasinghe.

History

Wycherley international school, one of the oldest International schools in Sri Lanka was founded in 1985. It is situated in 232 Bauddaloka Mawatte, Colombo 7. As a pioneer educational institution that filled the lack of English language skills in Sri Lanka when the medium of Sri Lankan schools was changed to Sinhala and Tamil, the school since the inception in 1985 has produced excellent performers in their chosen fields.

The medium of instruction is English with students ranging from nursery to high school. In the senior school, the classes prepare students for the Cambridge General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary (O), Advanced Subsidiary (AS) and Advanced (A2) Level.

Today the school boasts great academic standards with some of the past alumni attending prominent universities around the world such as Imperial College London, King's College London, University of Cambridge National University of Singapore, Monash University, University of Melbourne, University of Sydney and University of Oxford.

The school produces some of the highest “A” grade rates in the country for both Cambridge GCE ordinary level and Advance Level examinations. In some subjects such as Computing the school has produce 100% “A” Grade passes on more than one occasion. This is the only school in Sri Lanka to achieve this feat when presenting a significant number of students. The IT Department of the school is headed by Mr Ruwan Iddamalgoda, who has been on the academic staff of Wycherly for over twenty years. The current principal of the school is Mr. Kingsley Jayasinghe.
