YYoga is a yoga and wellness company based in Vancouver, British Columbia.[1][2] It is the largest corporate-owned yoga company in Canada.[3] Terry McBride and Lara Kozan co-founded the company in 2007.[4][5] McBride is the YYoga's CEO.[1][6]

In August 2015, the company operated 13 centres and offered 900+ classes in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Whistler and Toronto.[3]

History

In 2007, Terry McBride and Lara Kozan co-founded YYoga.[4][5][7] The company was founded with the intention to create a community of yoga studio and lifestyle centres.[3][8] The company partnered with Lululemon Athletica, a yoga-inspired athletic apparel company, in 2010 to provide complimentary yoga classes to the public from February 12 to 28 in Vancouver, Canada. The company completed a $9 million capital raise led by Fiore Capital Corporation and Beedie Capital Partners in January 2012.[4][7][9]

McBride partnered with Ian Gillespie, a Vancouver developer, to place wellness centres within residential developments in October 2012.[9] Their collaboration allowed McBride to build studios, as opposed to leasing and renovating pre-existing buildings.[9] The company launched the YYoga app in December 2012.[10] The app was built by Pound & Grain, a Vancouver-based digital creative agency.[10] The company opened its first location in Toronto, Canada in November 2013.[1][5] According to Business Vancouver, the studio is the largest centre in the YYoga chain and in Toronto.[5]

In August 2015, the company operated 13 centres in Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, North Vancouver, Whistler and Toronto.[3]

In recent years, people have begun to feel the brand is too corporate [11]
