Yusuf Chanzu
Yusuf Kifuma Chanzu is a Kenyan politician. He belongs to the Orange Democratic Movement and was elected to represent the Vihiga Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya since the Kenyan parliamentary election, 2007.[1]
He was educated at Kakamega School.[2]
It is reported that in November 2007, Chanzu took out a Sh19 million loan from Equity Bank. But as of April 25, the outstanding debt stood at Sh45,634,544.07, a hefty figure that the MP couldn't off-set. The bank wanted to recover its cash, and thus opted to selling off his private treaty and/or otherwise interfere with his possession, occupation and use of the residence.
On 23 September 2014, Yusuf Chanzu went to the Kenyan High Court seeking to stop Equity Bank in their second attempt to auction his home over a Sh45 million debt. While his fight eventually bore fruitt, the lenders couldn't back down, and on 28 July 2016, they were back again, an action that prompted him again to rush to the High Court.
On 28 June 2016, Chanzu was at the court again, still pleading to keep his property out of the lender's hands. The court, via Justice Msagha Mbogholi, declined to issue an order stopping Equity Bank and Capital Construction Company from owning the MP's property. The MP's wife, Jamila Oyoo Chanzu, who had filed the case, was requested to deposit security before June 29 at 11am. However, it was not likely that she would deposit such a huge amount.
