Zach Azzanni is an American football coach who currently serves as the wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator at the University of Tennessee. He was previously the wide receivers coach of the Wisconsin Badgers and before that he was the Offensive Coordinator at Western Kentucky University. He was also the wide receivers coach at the University of Florida under former Florida coach, Urban Meyer. Prior to arriving in Gainesville, Azzanni served as the wide receivers coach as well as the assistant head coach at Central Michigan University. His CMU teams compiled a three-year record of 28-13 including three consecutive Bowl appearances. He was also a member of the Florida coaching staff for the BCS All State Sugar Bowl when the Tim Tebow led Gators defeated Cincinnati 51-24.[1]
Urban Meyer Connection
Urban Meyer hired Azzanni at Bowling Green as a graduate assistant when Meyer became the Falcons' coach in 2001. Azzanni remained at Bowling Green after Meyer left to become Utah's head coach in 2003 and coached receivers for four seasons. Azzanni joined the Central Michigan staff in 2007 as the assistant head coach/receivers coach. "He is a tireless worker, relentless recruiter, and a great teacher of fundamentals," Meyer said. "He is also very familiar with our philosophy and will be a good fit with our players and staff."[2]
Recruiting
In the past 10 years, Azzanni has been called a “relentless” recruiter by Urban Meyer. He has most notably been a staple in the recruiting areas of the state of Florida, in particular the Miami/Fort Lauderdale areas.[3]
Coaching success
Azzanni has experienced three Bowl seasons at Central Michigan, a BCS All State Sugar Bowl win, another Outback Bowl win at Florida, 2 Bowl wins while Wide Receiver's Coach at Bowling Green, including one over Big Ten Opponent Northwestern and a Taxslayer Gator Bowl and Outback Bowl win at Tennessee against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
