The 1976 Davis Cup was the 65th edition of the most important tournament between national teams in men's tennis. 56 teams would enter the competition, 32 in the Europe Zone, 12 in the Americas Zone, and 12 in the Eastern Zone.

Chile defeated South Africa in the Americas Zone final, Australia defeated New Zealand in the Eastern Zone final, and Italy and the Soviet Union won the Europe Zones. In the Inter-Zonal Zone,Chile defeated the Soviet Union (by walkover) and Italy defeated Australia. Italy defeated Chile in the final, which was held at the Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile, on 17–19 December.

The Soviet Union refused to compete against Chile, because of their opposition to the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.[1] They would subsequently be barred from the 1977 and 1978 competitions as punishment.
