1990–91 Hartford Whalers season

The 1990–91 Hartford Whalers season was the franchise's 19th season, 12th in the NHL. The Whalers placed fourth in the Adams Division to qualify for the playoffs. The Whalers were eliminated in the first round by their New England rival Boston Bruins.

July 9, 1990 - Jody Hull traded to the New York Rangers for Carey Wilson and the Rangers 1991 third round draft pick (Michael Nylander).
October 1, 1990 - Dave Tippett traded to the Washington Capitals for their 1992 sixth round draft pick (Jarrett Reid).
October 3, 1990 - Joel Quenneville traded to the Washington Capitals for future considerations. Washington later sent cash to Hartford to complete the deal.
