The 2004 Australian GT Performance Car Championship was a CAMS sanctioned motor racing title, [1] organised by Procar Australia as part of the PROCAR Championship Series and open to drivers of high performance coupes and sedans, racing with minimal modifications.[2]
Justin Hemmes won the series driving a Subaru Impreza WRX beating semi-factory Volkswagen Golf R32 driver Paul Stokell by 90 points. Mitsubishi Lancer driver Garry Holt was third.
Calendar
The title was contested over a seven round series.[3]
- Round 1, Adelaide Parklands Circuit, South Australia, 19-21 March
- Round 2, Oran Park Grand Prix Circuit, New South Wales, 17-18 April
- Round 3, Sandown International Motor Raceway, Victoria, 15-16 May
- Round 4, Winton Motor Raceway, Victoria, 20-21 June
- Round 5, Eastern Creek International Raceway, New South Wales, 18 July
- Round 6, Wakefield Park, New South Wales, 8 August
- Round 7, Mallala Motor Sport Park, South Australia, 19 September
Rounds 3 & 5 were contested over two races and all other rounds over three races.[4]
Points system
Points were awarded on a 30-24-20-18-17-16-15-14-13-12-11-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 basis to the top 21 classified finishers in each race [3] except for the two rounds run over two races, where the second race was worth double points. [5] An additional 3 points were awarded to the driver setting the fastest qualifying time at each round. [3]
