The Overwatch World Cup 2016 was an Overwatch eSports tournament, organized by Blizzard Entertainment, the game's developer. It was the first of the series, and took place at BlizzCon in Anaheim on November 4 and November 5, 2016.[1]

Format

Teams from ANZ, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, and the United States were automatically invited to 2016 Overwatch World Cup. Teams from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico and Peru competed in the American Qualifier and chose 1 team to enter the Overwatch World Cup. Teams from Sweden, Germany, France, Austria, CIS&Baltic Area, Benelux, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania. Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and Great Britain competed in the European Qualifier and chose 6 teams to enter the Overwatch World Cup. Teams from Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam competed in the APAC Qualifier and chose 3 teams to enter the Overwatch World Cup.
