The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, which is also counted as the 5th Asian Indoor Games will be held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan in 2017.[1] Ashgabat, first in the former Soviet Central Asian region, won the right to host the Asian Indoor Games. The host city was chosen in Kuwait on 19 December 2010.[2] On 6 July 2013 the flag of the Olympic Council of Asia was officially handed over to the mayor of the city of Ashgabat.[3]
Venues
One of the unique facilities, which, having no analogues in the Central Asian region, will host the Asian Indoor Games is the Olympic Village, it will include more than 30 different objects, including complex and Paralympic Rehabilitation Medical Center. The initiator of the construction is the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.[4] On 5 November 2010 the President of Turkmenistan took part in the ceremony of laying the Olympic Village. Investment in the first phase of which amounted to nearly $2 billion.[5] The second phase of the construction cost of $3 billion.[6][7][8] The total cost of the Olympic Village is US$5 billion and the construction is carried by the Turkish company Polimeks.
For the convenience of athletes and spectators in the Olympic village will be built all the necessary infrastructure, including social, cultural and shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, cafes, shops, consumer services, car park. On the campus network will be laid pedestrian crossings and the monorail.
Full completion of the construction work is planned by the end of 2015.[9]
Participating nations
All 45 member countries of the Olympic Council of Asia were invited to compete at these Games. For the first time in the Asian Games will be attended by 17 Oceania National Olympic Committees.[10]
