The 2019 Pan American Games, officially the XVIII Pan American Games or the 18th Pan American Games, is a major international multi-sport event that is scheduled to be held from July 26 to August 11, 2019, in Lima, Peru.^[1]

The official logo of the 2019 Pan American Games is inspired by an indigenous flower that flourished from June 24 thru September 30, called: Flower of Amancaes. The flower and its pistils represent three athletes with open arms and the three Americas, with the identity of Lima.^[2]

Bidding process

A total of four bids were submitted for the 2019 Pan American Games. Lima was elected as the host city on October 11, 2013 where PASO members gathered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to elect the host city.

Sports

With the introduction of surfing, the 2019 edition expands the Pan American program to 38 sports.^[3] On November 17, 2016 it was announced bodybuilding and skateboarding (which is one two sports, the other being sport climbing not in the program, but of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics), was also added to the sport program.^[4] Both sports will make their Pan American Games debut.^[4]
