Acıbadem Healthcare Group

The Acıbadem Healthcare Group is a Turkish healthcare institution, operating with 17.000 employees in 20 locations through a network of six general hospitals, medical centers, outpatient clinics, one ophthalmology center and laboratories.

Besides its partnership with Istanbul International Hospital and International Etiler Outpatient Clinic, Acıbadem expands outside of Istanbul with Izmir, Eskişehir and Bodrum hospitals and in Istanbul with Maslak and Beşiktaş (Fulya) hospitals. It was founded in 1992 by Mehmet Ali Aydınlar and Dr. Armağan Özel, who left the group in 2007. Aydınlar is still the CEO of the group. The largest shareholder of Acıbadem is IHH Healthcare.[1][2]

Public offering

Acıbadem Hospitals Group

Acıbadem offered its shares in a public offering in 2000 and put the funds received towards new investments to increase its capacity. Today, Acıbadem is the only healthcare institution whose shares are traded on the Borsa Istanbul (BIST).

Advanced technology and information systems network

Acıbadem maintains a communications network between the Hospital Information Communication System in which all the medical records of patients are stored in Acıbadem Hospitals. Within or between the hospitals, Acıbadem employs an advanced Visual Transfer System.

Quality studies

Aiming to provide healthcare services according to the standards of the United States-oriented accreditation institution Joint Commission International, which supervises the quality of hospitals, Acıbadem has been accepted into the membership of the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) and Kalder. ISO 9001 certificate is granted to the Acıbadem's Central Sterilization Units.

Joint Commission International (JCI) Accreditation

JCI is an independent, international organization which determines the quality standards and evaluating them. It is the most accepted and acclaimed evaluation model internationally and offers objective measurement tools to facilitate improvement of quality and safety of patients and increasing the effectiveness of the health care services. From polyclinics to hospitals, all institutions of the Acıbadem Healthcare Group have qualified to receive JCI accreditation.

Activities

Acıbadem organizes weekly and monthly scientific seminars and conferences with in-company and guest speakers.

Other activities include health screenings, preparation for delivery courses, first aid courses, diabetes training programs, healthcare talk-shows to a smoke-free life, breast feeding and baby care, training of heart patients before and after surgery programs.

Some firsts by Acıbadem

The Private Delivery Room in Istanbul is only at Acıbadem Hospital Bakırköy. New Born's Home Visit Program which enables the new-borns to receive their first three months check-ups by a specialist at home is being implemented for the first time in Turkey . At Acıbadem Hospital Bakırköy Air Ambulance services are offered. Call center Acıbadem Hotline and online e-Visit programs are pioneering activities Acıbadem.

International cooperation

Harvard Medical Cooperation

In 2003 Acıbadem enlisted the services of Harvard Medical International (now Partners Harvard Medical International). Through this cooperation's knowledge and technological sharing patients can receive the same treatment protocols and technologies in Turkey without ever going outside the country.[3]

Contracted international insurance firms

Allianz Worldwide Care

Allianz International Insurance is one of the largest insurance firms in the world and provides services in 70 countries since 1980. Having a wide healthcare network, Allianz Insurance offers services for private healthcare insurance in 23 countries. In October 2014, Allianz Worldwide Care announced they would not transport patients with Ebola symptoms.[4]

PPP Healthcare

As a member of the Global Axa Group, PPP Healthcare is an international insurance firm with customer of 2,500,000. It provides international healthcare services and consultancy for British citizens living or traveling abroad. Patients can receive treatment in all international hospitals contracted to PPP Healthcare.

International Health Insurance (Denmark A/S)

The Danish International Health Insurance is an insurance firm. Acıbadem Healthcare Group has been providing services to IHI insured patients who live or travel in Turkey.

Agis Groep

Acıbadem Healthcare Group provides healthcare services to patients insured by the Agis Ziektekostenverzekeringen which is one of the largest insurance companies of the Netherlands.

Euro-Center Turkey

The following insurers of Euro-Center can receive treatment at Acibadem - Europaeiska Rejseforsiking A/S Denmark, Europaeiske Rejseforsiking A/S Norway, Europaiska Försakringar, Sweden Europpalainen, Finland- Europeesche Verzekeingen, the Nethaerlands Europaische, Reiseversicherung AG Germany, Evropska Cestovni Pojistovna A.S. Czech Republic, Europejskie Ubezpeicczerine Poland European Travel Protection United.

Cooperation with Siemens AG and Massachusetts General Hospital

Under the framework of a cooperation agreement with Siemens Medical Center, Acıbadem Hospital Kozyatağı has acquired a three Tesla Intraoperative MR Equipment in its surgery room. While providing know-how to the medical world with the results of the scanner, Acıbadem Hospital Kozyatağı will be a reference center for the world in terms intra-operative MR implementations.

In addition to the Siemens agreement, Acıbadem Healthcare Group is entering into of cooperation with Massachusetts General Hospital who is developing software programs for advanced MR technology. Through sharing of these software programs especially for brain viewing process with Acıbadem Healthcare Group it is aimed at a wider use of this medical software application and the improvement of the brain scanning researches in the international medical field

Labmed Cooperation

Acıbadem Healthcare Group, while providing advanced laboratory services through Labmed; will share its reference centered medical and industrial oriented laboratory services with the rest of healthcare sector.

In 2004, on the subject of referenced laboratory services Acıbadem Healthcare Group had signed a cooperation agreement with the Labmed Group (Labmed Dortmund GmbH) who had been active in Germany for 25 years. By the courtesy of Labmed; while the quality laboratory services according to EU standards are offered, from now on all the laboratory tests sent abroad will be evaluated in our own country.
