Alec Koçoğlu (born December 1, 1994 in Malibu, California) is a Turkish-American professional ice hockey player. Currently, he is competing in the Turkish Ice Hockey Super League for Izmir BB GSK. He is part of the Turkey men's national ice hockey team. The 1.62 m (5 ft 4 in) tall forward at 70 kg (150 lb) shoots left-handed.[1] His elder brother Andy Koçoğlu is also an ice hockey player.[2]

Playing career

Club

Born in the United States to parents from Turkey, Alec Koçoğlu played in the United States as junior in the league of Midget Minor 16 for Penguins in 2009 and for California Heat in 2010–11.[3]

After moving to Turkey, he joined the Ankara-based team Başkent Yıldızları in 2011, where he played two seasons in the Turkish Super League (TBHSL) and enjoyed twice championships. In the 2013–14 season, he transferred to Izmir Büyükşehir Belediyesi GSK.[2][4] Koçoğlu became once again champion with his team,[1] and was named Best Forward of the league.[5]

He participated for Başkent Yıldızları at the IIHF Continental Cup 2013 – Group A matches held in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania.[1][6][7]

International

Koçoğlu was called up to the Turkey national team and plays in the 2014 IIHF World Championship Division II – Group B matches. He scored two goals against New Zealand.[8] Koçoğlu took part at the 2016 IIHF World Championship Division III tournament and scored four goals.
