Anil Deshmukh
Anil Vasantrao Deshmukh is an Indian politician. He served as the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies Works in the Government of Maharashtra state, Indiauntil September 2014.[1] He represented Katol, Nagpur district, first on behalf of the Congress party, and then the Nationalist Congress Party in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1995 to October 2014.[2][3] In the 2014 Assembly election, he lost in the Katol constituency to his own nephew, Ashish Ranjeet Deshmukh the son of Ex-president of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Ranjeet Deshmukh.[4]
Political career
Deshmukh served as chairman of Nagpur Zila Parishad during initial years of his political career. He has been elected to Maharashtra assembly for 5 times since 1995, however he lost his seat to his nephew in the 2014 assembly elections.
Personal life
Deshmukh hails from a village Vad Vihira, which is near Katol in the Nagpur district. Deshmukh lost his father Vasantrao Deshmukh, a rich farmer during his childhood and was brought up by his uncle. He attended Katol High school, Katol. He attended The College of Agriculture, Nagpur and holds a master of science degree in Agriculture awarded by Nagpur University.[5] The college of Agriculture has now shifted affiliation to Dr.Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth (Agricultural University), Akola.
He is married to Aarti, and they have two sons and a daughter. His elder son, Salil, is a district level chairman of Nationalist Congress party. His daughter is a doctor.
