Arabella Lennox-Boyd
Arabella Lennox-Boyd, The Hon. Lady Lennox-Boyd (born 1938) is an Italian-born English garden designer.
Background
Arabella Lennox-Boyd was born in Rome and grew up there and at Palazzo Parisi, Oliveto their family home. She is a daughter of Piero Parisi and a granddaughter of General Armando Diaz, 1st Duke Duca della Vittoria.[1] She later settled in England where she undertook a course in Landscape Architecture at Thames Polytechnic.
She was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Design (HonDDes) by the University of Greenwich and is a member of The University of Greenwich Assembly.
Career
Since moving to Gresgarth Hall in Lancashire in 1978 with her family, Arabella Lennox-Boyd developed the gardens there marrying Italian style with British plantmanship.
She has won six gold medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show (1990, 1993, 1995, 1998, 2000 and 2008) and the Best in Show Award in 1998. Over a career spanning 40 years, she has undertaken commissions all over the world, ranging from small town gardens to large historical landscapes. Her client list includes Sting, Sir Terence Conran and Queen Paola of Belgium.
In 1990, she was commissioned to design the gardens at Eaton Hall in Cheshire for the 6th Duke of Westminster and his wife, Natalia.[2]
In 1989 Arabella formed Arabella Lennox-Boyd Landscape and Architectural Design where she heads a team of designers. She has held several public appointments in landscape and horticulture including serving as a trustee of Kew Gardens for 9 years. She was a member of the Historic Parks and Gardens Panel of English Heritage and sat on the Heritage panel of judges for six contemporary heritage gardens. She is currently a trustee of The Yorkshire Arboretum Trust formally known as the Castle Howard Arboretum Trust. She is patron of the Painshill Park Trust and is on the Council and the Scientific Panel of the International Dendrology Society. She serves on the RHS Woody Plant Committee and is also a trustee of The Tree Register T.R.O.B.I.
Marriages
Arabella Parisi married, as her first husband, Philippe Lacloche de Vallombreuse, a son of Nathalie Volpi, Countess di Misurata (née Nathalie El-Kanoui), by her first husband. They were divorced and had one daughter, Dominique.[1][3]
She married, as her second husband, Mark Lennox-Boyd (born 1943), youngest son of Alan Lennox-Boyd, 1st Viscount Boyd of Merton, on 29 June 1974; he was knighted in 1994 and is now Sir Mark Lennox-Boyd. They have one child, Patricia.
