Banner County Wind Farm

The Banner County Wind Farm was a proposal by the Chicago-based Midwest Wind Energy company to construct a $60 million wind farm in Banner County, Nebraska. The 60,000 to 100,000 acre (24,000 to 40,000 ha) wind farm was intended to have 600 to 800 turbines and a peak capacity of 2,000 megawatts. The wind farm was intentionally designed to be big in order to force the construction of improved transmission lines. It was expected that it could take 10 years to complete the project.[1]

The wind farm was to be the largest in Nebraska, exceeding the size of Elkhorn Ridge, an 80 megawatt wind farm near Bloomfield, Nebraska, which began operation in March, 2009.[1]
