Brooklyn Mack is an American professional ballet dancer who performs with The Washington Ballet. He previously danced with the Orlando Ballet and Pavlovich Ballet School.[2]

Education

Raised in Elgin, South Carolina,[3] Mack began ballet training to improve his football playing when he was 12 years old. He started his studies at the Pavlovich Dance School.[2] Two years later,[4] at the age of 15, began training in Washington, D.C. on a full scholarship with the Kirov Academy of Ballet.[1] He graduated from Kirov after three years, then joined the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago as an apprentice[4] in 2004.[5] The following year he joined the American Ballet Theatre Studio Company in New York City.[2][4][6]

Career

In 2006, Mack joined the Orlando Ballet in Florida,.[7] After three seasons in Orlando, he joined The Washington Ballet in 2009. His international performances include Venezuela's Ballet Clasico de Camara, the Latvian National Ballet, and Japan's NBA Ballet Company.[2]

Mack has received awards from the 2005 Helsinki International Ballet Competition (Kirsti Paakenen Encouragement Prize), the 2006 USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi (silver medal), the 2007 Princess Grace Awards (fellowship winner),[8] the 2009 Helsinki International Ballet Competition (silver prize),[9] the 2011 Boston International Ballet Competition (bronze medal and Marius Leipa Prize), and the 2011 Korean International Dance Competition (silver medal).[2] In summer 2012 Brooklyn Mack won a Gold medal in Bulgaria at The International Ballet Competition (Varna 2012), also he won the Grand Prix at The Istanbul International Ballet Competition and a gold medal at the Boston International Ballet Competition.[10]

He was named one of "25 to Watch" by Dance Magazine in 2012.[3]

In April, 2015 Brooklyn Mack debuted in the role of Prince Siegfried in the Washington Ballet’s ‘Swan Lake’ partnered by Misty Copeland, a guest star from American Ballet Theater in the double role of Odette/Odile.[11]
