case/lang/veirs
case/lang/veirs is a Canadian-American supergroup consisting of k.d. lang, Neko Case, and Laura Veirs, formed in Portland, Oregon.[1][2][3] The group launched with a June 2016 eponymous album, to be followed by a summer 2016 tour of almost 20 cities.[4]
Background
The trio was formed three years before the album release,[5] when lang, in a one-line e-mail, invited Case and Veirs to join her, and they responded affirmatively within 30 minutes.[1][4][6] The three had decades of music experience making music[7] and recorded over 30 studio albums.[6] Lang, who previously collaborated with Dwight Yoakam, Madeleine Peyroux and Ann Wilson,[8] has said that she was considering retirement before forming the band,[9] and she always wanted to "be part of a band, a real collaborative effort".[10] The band's sound is described as alt-country.[2][11] Two of the band members, lang and Veirs, live in Portland; Case joined them from her home in Vermont.[1]

Critical reception
The group's self-titled debut album received "ecstatic reviews".[8] Pitchfork gave the band's debut album 8.2 out of 10 stars, noting its strong musicianship and use of natural imagery. Pitchfork acknowledged comparisons to the 1987 album Trio from Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris, but said that unlike Trio it was unlikely to be followed up with a second album,[13] and lang herself called it a "one-off record".[10] Writing for Exclaim!, Sarah Greene lauded the album, calling it " profound, passionate and substantial."[14] The Independent's four-star review called it "an album of rare beauty and intelligence" also noting "elemental reflections" in some of the lyrics.[15] Production by Tucker Martine, Veirs's spouse, was lauded by Chicago Tribune as "giv[ing] each song exactly what it needs", also noting the singers attained an "organic feel to the union that would raise it above the usually mediocre (or worse) level of most such hey-let's-get-together-and-jam all-star collaborations".[16]
