Chirostyloidea is one of the two superfamilies of squat lobsters (alongside Galatheoidea). It comprises the three families Chirostylidae, Eumunididae and Kiwaidae.[1] Although the two groups of squat lobsters are superficially similar, Chirostyloidea are more closely related to hermit crabs and mole crabs than they are to squat lobsters in the Galatheoidea.[2] No fossils can be confidently assigned to the Chirostyloidea, although Pristinaspina may belong either in the family Kiwaidae or Chirostylidae.[3]
