Chirumanzu-Zibagwe (parliamentary constituency)

Chirumanzu-Zibagwe is a constituency in the House of Assembly of the Parliament of Zimbabwe.

It is located in the Midlands Province. Mvuma, a small mining town, is one of the largest commercial centers in the constituency.

Constituency Profile

Chirumanzu-Zibagwe Constituency was created prior to the Zimbabwean general election, 2008, from the old Chirumanzu Constituency. It stretches all the way from Mvuma, east side of the Harare-Masvingo Highway to the west side of the Harare-Bulawayo Highway to includes which were formerly under Zhombe Constituency. It also covers places like Rukundo and Netherburn along the Gweru-Mvuma Highway.

Population

In 2011 the population was 40,185 people in over 10,246 house holds resident in town, mines, farms, resettlement and communal areas.[1]

Voters

In 2011 registered voters were 19,566, that would be 48% of the population. Each ward has about 1396 voters on average. The wards are numbers 1; 2; 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 22 24 and 31 with ward #1 having the largest number of people while ward #19 has the least. Ward 31 has the highest number of voters and ward 16 has the lowest.[1]

Education

Primary Schools

On educational services the constituency has 2 mission owned primary schools, 4 private ones, 1 farm school, 1 government school 30 local-government owned ones. Teachers were 292 for a total enrolment of 24041 pupils in 37 school. This shows that teachers were too few for an average class.

Secondary Schools

There are 13 secondary schools in Chirumanzu-Zibagwe Constituency with a total of 2887 students taught by 112 teachers.[1]

Health Facilities

There are 11 health centers in this cinstituency. Of the eleven 1 is a private clinic, 3 council clinics, 1 council owned rural health center, 2 governmrnt clinics, 1 government owned rural health center, 1 government owned hospital and 2 mission hospitals.[1]

There are two larger and better equipped clinics known as Rural Health Centers and 6 ordinary clinics.

Animal Heath

In 2011 there were 22,695 cattle, 14 veterinary centers and 36 dip tanks.

Ward 20 had the highest number of cattle while Ward 17 has the least.[1]

Water Sources

About 75 of the 116 boreholes in the constituey were not functional in 2011.[1]

Some centers use piped water from dams and deep wells.

Current MP

Hon. Auxillia Mnangagwa

She is member of the Central Committee and Deputy Secretary for Environment and Tourism in the Zanu-PF politiburo. Auxilia Mnangagwa has been engaged with female prison officers and spouses of male prison officers in income generating projects. She has also been very instrumental in establishing women's banks in areas such as Zhombe, Silobela, Zibagwe and Chirimanzu to name a few centres.[2]

Her ambition to replace her husband as MP after the seat fell vacant when Mnangangwa was elevated to VP paid off when the majority backed her in the by-election which she won without much competition.[3]

2013 Parliamentary Election

Winner for this seat in the election of 2013 was Hon. Emmerson Mnangagwa, now first of the two Vice-Presidents of the Republic of Zimbabwe.

By law Hon. Emmerson Mnangagwa could no longer keep the seat after his elevation to the presidium. A by-election had to decide who the next Member of Parliament for this constituency would be.[4]

Auxillia Mnangagwa ZANU-PF the wife of the vice-president won the Chirumanzu-Zibagwe Constituency seat.[6]
