Claranet Ltd is a privately owned company offering IT infrastructure platforms and services to businesses in the UK and Western Europe across a broad range of industry sectors. It is one of the largest independent managed services providers in Western Europe, and is headquartered in Holborn, London, UK.

The company has annualised revenues of circa £200 million (€238 million), 5,700 customers, 1,200 employees, and an international footprint in six countries (Benelux, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and the UK). While Claranet has grown internationally, the company’s focus is on local service, out of local offices, using local data centres.

History

Claranet was founded in 1996 by CEO Charles Nasser as an Internet Service Provider (ISP). By 1999, the business had 150,000 subscribers. However, the business evolved into a Managed Services Provider (MSP) in response to a changing marketplace. Today, Claranet’s portfolio encompasses network, public and private cloud hosting and communication services.

The company’s ambitious growth strategy has led to numerous acquisitions since 2003: Netscalibur (2003), VIA.Net Works (2004), Amen Group (2005), VIA.Net Works Europe (2005), Star Technology (2012), Typhon (France, 2012) Artful (2014), Echiron (Portugal, 2014), Grita (France, 2014), NovaData (The Netherlands, 2014), Techgate (UK, 2015), LinuxIT (UK, 2015), Morea (France, 2015), Celingest (France, 2015) Aspaway (France, 2015), Bashton (UK, 2016) and Ardenta (UK, 2016).
