Coláiste Ailigh is an Irish-language secondary school previously located at Sprackburn House in Letterkenny, County Donegal, Ireland. In 2008, it received the go ahead from the government to build a new school to be finished in 2013. Coláiste Ailigh was given a new state-of-the-art school in November 2013.[1] The new school has many facilities, including a fully equipped gym, sport hall, cafeteria and full-sized Gaelic pitch. The school was built to hold 350 students. The school currently has approximately 270 students. It opened in 2000, becoming the VEC's third All-Irish School. Pupils from the surrounding areas of Carrigart, Termon and Strabane also enrolled in the school. The Principal is Micheál Ó Giobúin.[2][3]
Prizes
The Colaiste recently received a €2,000,000 prize for PE equipment for at the active School Awards held in The Helix in Dublin. It was one of only two schools in Donegal to avail of the funds, the other being Moville Community College. Awards were presented based on achievements in placing PE, physical activity and sport to the forefront during Active School Week and during the school year.[4] It also takes part in the BT young scientist of the year competition and has won many prizes. For example, in 2010 they won second place in the junior groups category for Biological and Ecological sciences and second place in Senior individual Social and Behavioural sciences.
