Creative Secondary School (CSS; simplified Chinese: 启思中学; traditional Chinese: 啟思中學; pinyin: Qǐsī Zhōngxué) is a Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) and semi-international school. It opened in Hong Kong, September 2006. CSS offers both the IB Programme (which consists of the IB Middle Years Program and the IB Diploma) and Hong Kong's standard educational curriculum (Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education). Classes are held in English.
The school encourages students to live in harmony and respect with people from different cultural backgrounds, as the school has a diverse representation of teachers and students of different nationalities.
Curriculum
CSS offers both the IB Programme (which consists of the IB Middle Years Program and the IB Diploma.) and the standard Diploma. The Creative Secondary School was one of the first in Hong Kong to offer a dual curriculum.[3] In 2009, the school won the Hong Kong Odyssey of the Mind competition and represented Hong Kong at an international level.[4] The Creative Secondary School mottos are "Through this place we thrive, we serve and find our place in the world." [1] and "Be Positive, Act Positvely.[2] '
School life
CSS offers extracurricular activities. Sports include rugby, badminton, football (soccer), archery and athletics.
House System
CSS employs a house system in which all of its students and the majority of staff are associated with one house. The six houses are Bauhinia, Bombax, Cassia, Delonix, Jacaranda and Juniper. They have their own house colours and compete against each other in various school events such as the CSS Sports Day and the Annual CSS Showcase.
Staff
Cheung Siu Ming is the founding Principal. He attended St. Joseph's College in Hong Kong, received his degree and teaching qualification at the University of Bristol, and an MA in Education from the Open University (UK.) He taught in UK secondary schools and served as an adviser in Lambeth Education Department in London. He returned to Hong Kong in 1994 to join the English Schools Foundation as Deputy Principal of West Island School. This is the only International School to achieve the EMB's QEF Outstanding School Award. In 2001 the ESF appointed Ming Principal of Phoenix International School. He has been a tutor for the OUHK's MED program.
CSS has 75 teaching staff. The staff are 34% native English speakers, 35% overseas returnees/bilinguals, 18% Fluent Putonghua speakers, 69% educated overseas, 14 nationalities, 10 languages and 5 continents.
