Daniel Thomas "Danny" Hylton (born 25 February 1989) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for League Two club Luton Town.
Career
Aldershot Town
Born in Camden, Greater London,[1] Hylton joined Aldershot Town aged 16 in 2005, when he was signed by Terry Brown. During the 2007–08 season, Hylton was part of the team which won the Conference Premier title and the Conference League Cup.[2][3] Among his appearances, Hylton played in their first League Cup game, when he came on as a 69th-minute substitute for Marvin Morgan in a 3–1 defeat to Coventry City on 13 August 2008.[4]
In March 2007, Hylton joined Harlow Town on loan before he sustained an injury on his debut, making one appearance as a result.[5]
On 6 January 2011, it was reported Hylton had agreed to sign for AFC Wimbledon.[6] However, he later signed a one-year contract extension to remain with Aldershot under new manager Dean Holdsworth.[7]
In May 2012, Hylton was given an eight-match ban and fined £1,000 after being found guilty of two charges of racial abuse.[8]
Rotherham United
On 18 June 2013, Hylton signed a two-year contract with newly promoted League One club Rotherham United, with the option of a third year.[9] He made his Rotherham debut in a 1–0 away win over Brentford on 5 October 2013.[10]
Ten days later, Hylton was loaned out to League Two club Bury until 23 November 2013.[11]
On 27 January 2014, Hylton joined AFC Wimbledon on loan for the remainder of the 2013–14 season.[12] Rotherham were promoted to the Championship at the end of the season, and Hylton was transfer-listed.[13]
Oxford United
Hylton joined League Two club Oxford United on a two-year contract on 6 June 2014.[14] He ended the 2014–15 season as Oxford's top goalscorer with 16 goals in all competitions, 14 of which came in the league.[15] On 3 April 2016, he scored Oxford's second goal in the 2016 Football League Trophy Final at Wembley Stadium, which Oxford lost 3–2 to Barnsley.[16]
Luton Town
On 31 May 2016, newly promoted League One club Oxford United announced that Hylton had declined a new contract and signed for Luton Town.[17] He signed a two-year contract with the club,[18] before scoring the opening goal on his debut in a 3–0 win over Plymouth Argyle on 6 August 2016.[19] Hylton scored a hat-trick during a 4–1 home win over Wycombe Wanderers on 3 September 2016,[20] earning him a place in the English Football League Team of the Week.[21]
