Dhanendra Kumar, India

Dhanendra Kumar (born 1946) is a civil servant (joined Indian Administrative Service – India's Premier Federal Government Service, in 1968), former Executive Director at World Bank[1][2] and first Chairman of Competition Commission of India.[3][4] He is currently assisting Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs[5][6][7] (of Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India) as Principal Advisor and Chief Mentor of School of Competition Law – the upcoming National Centre of Excellence.

He has also served as Secretary to Government of India – Ministry of Defence,[8][9] Ministry of Road Transport and Highways,[10] Ministry of Culture.[11]

He is the founder – Chairman of Competition Advisory Services (India) LLP (COMPAD).[12]

He was conferred National Citizen's Award by Mother Teresa for outstanding contribution in development of Industrial Parks in Haryana. He was also awarded honorary doctorate in recognition of outstanding contribution in public affairs.

Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) has constituted a Committee under his Chairmanship for framing of National Competition Policy (India) and related matters (formulate amendments in the Act).[13][14]

Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (MHUPA) has constituted a Committee under his Chairmanship on Streamlining Approval Procedures for Real Estate Projects (SAPREP).[15]

Early life

Mr. Kumar did his schooling from Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh (UP), followed by Bachelor of Science (BSc) & Master of Science (MSc) from University of Allahabad. Then after, he continued his association with academics and was a Lecturer in Physics at Maharaj Singh College, Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Career

Mr. Kumar is a 1968 batch Indian Administrative Service officer of the Haryana Cadre. He gradually climbed the ranks to become a senior official with vast experience in the economic and infrastructure development sectors.

He was first posted as an Assistant Commissioner (Ambala) in the year 1969.
