Dilfirib Kadın (c. 1890 – c. 1952[1]) was the fifth wife of Sultan Mehmed V of the Ottoman Empire.[2][3][4]
Biography
Born in Istanbul in 1890, Dilfirib was a Circassian.[4] At a very young age she was given to the palace for service where she received private education and training. She was very well educated and was interested in history.[4] However, during her service Mehmed took notice of her and they married in 1907 in the Veliahd Palace.[4] In 1916 she also received the medal of Nişanını ihsan.[4]
After Sultan Mehmed’s death in 1918, she remained in the palace for some time and after moving in her villa located in Erenköy she remarried again to a doctor with whom she had an issue, a son.[4] Long after settling in her mansion located in Vaniköy, she died of cancer[4] in the year, 1952 in Istanbul and was also buried there.[4]
