Earlswood railway station serves Earlswood, south of Redhill, in Surrey, England. It is on the Brighton Main Line, south of the junction between the 'Redhill line' and the 'Quarry line'. Train services are provided by Southern.

History

Earlswood station was opened by the London Brighton and South Coast Railway on 1 August 1868.^[1] The station was rebuilt with four platforms in 1906 at the time of the quadrupling of the main line. The platforms on the fast lines were closed in the 1980s.

Free parking is available at the station. There is a ticket office.

Services

Earlswood is served by the Redhill route: London Bridge to Horsham.

The off-peak services are:

• 2tph to London Bridge
• 2tph to Horsham

Services towards London Bridge call at Redhill, Merstham, Coulsdon South, Purley, East Croydon, Norwood Junction, New Cross Gate and London Bridge.

Services towards Horsham call at Salfords, Horley, Gatwick Airport, Three Bridges, Crawley, Ifield, Faygate, Littlehaven and Horsham.

The peak services include more services to London Bridge as well as London Victoria. There are also services to coastal locations such as Littlehampton.

Oyster extension

It has been announced that from January 2016, passengers will be able to use Oyster and contactless payment cards from this station.^[2]

Future developments

The Thameslink Programme (formerly Thameslink 2000) project proposes to turn some of the Southern services over to the expanded Thameslink network under First Capital Connect. This will see services that currently terminate at London Bridge continuing through Central London and north wards via the Midland Main Line or East Coast Main Line to destinations such as Peterborough. The Thameslink Programme is centred on 12 car long trains, thus Earlswood station could potentially have its platforms lengthened as they can only currently accommodate 10 car long trains.
