Eastleigh College in Eastleigh, Hampshire is a community college of further education, providing education and training to school leavers and students returning to education.

The college is in the top 10% of general further education colleges nationally and is a Beacon College, recognised for the high standards of teaching and achievement. The College was inspected by Ofsted in May 2006 and received 11 Outstanding and 83 Good judgements. In 2011 Eastleigh College was awarded Outstanding by Ofsted[1] for its College House facility, along with the Customer Service Excellence Standard.[2] The College is also recognised by The Sunday Times as one of the Best Places to Work in the Public/Third Sector in 2011[3] and received star recognition for great work practices and employee care by the workplace engagement specialists Best Companies in 2012.[4]

Campus

The College has recently undergone a £13 million redevelopment project, creating new workshops, classrooms and studios. There are new facilities for Motor Vehicle, Plumbing, Electrical Installation, Construction, Built Environment, Engineering, Art & Design and Hair & Beauty, a new suite of classrooms for Health, Social Care and Child Care and a new Gas Assessment Centre.

Other improvements have created a pedestrian-friendly environment and two new outdoor social areas on main campus, new foyers to the front of the main campus and Desborough campus, improved disabled access across the College, a seventh Hair & Beauty salon at Desborough and a refurbishment of the working restaurant for Catering & Hospitality.

Student life

Students are encouraged to take a full and active role in College and are invited to attend College communities. Each course have nominated representatives who attend meetings every term to discuss College issues and developments. Two student governors represent the students at management level. All students are entitled to join the National Union of Students (NUS). The NUS is one of the largest organisations in the world, representing the interest of around 5 million students throughout the United Kingdom. There are also given the opportunity to take a variety of courses such as Personal Presentation, Personal Safety and First Aid.

The College also offers a variety of trips and social events throughout the year, the chance to complete the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and any students with an interest in Drama can get involved in the Drama Club. There is a fitness room that contains both cardio-vascular and resistance equipment, and the College runs team leagues in a number of sports.
