Edwin H. Baker Pratt

Edwin Howard Baker Pratt (June 5, 1913 March 18, 1975), was an American educator and headmaster of Buckingham Browne & Nichols.

Early life

Pratt was born in Glen Cove, New York in 1913, the son of lawyer and financier John Teele Pratt and Congresswoman Ruth Baker Pratt; and grandson of oil industry pioneer Charles Pratt.

He was the fourth of five children. His brothers-in-law were Paul Nitze and Robert H. Thayer.

Pratt studied at Harvard College, graduating in the class of 1936.

Career

He was headmaster of the private Browne & Nichols, now Buckingham Browne & Nichols, in Cambridge, MA from 1955 (or earlier) to 1968.

Personal life

Pratt became engaged to Aileen Kelly, from Massachusetts (born in Monte Carlo, 1915, died 1976) in 1935, and they had four children, the youngest of which is singer-songwriter Andy Pratt.

Pratt died 18 March 1975 in Boston, Massachusetts, aged 61.[1]

Legacy

Through bequests to Buckingham Browne & Nichols, there are the Edwin H. B. Pratt Faculty Fund and the Edwin and Aileen Pratt Faculty Development Fund.
