Eknathrao Ganpatrao Khadse (born 2 September 1952) is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and was a prominent minister of the BJP administration in Maharashtra.

He was elected to the position of Opposition Leader in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in November 2010.[1] He represents Muktainagar (Assembly constituency) in Jalgaon district of North Maharashtra. He was the state Finance minister and later additionally took on the responsibility of the Agriculture ministry in the Shiv Sena/BJP government. He was elected six times from his constituency, and has been a prominent figure for farmers in the state of Maharashtra.[2]

On June 3, 2016 , Eknath Khadse resigned as state Minister after allegations of corruption and misuse of office surfaced against him.

Personal life

Eknath Khadse is from kothali village of Muktainagar tehsil of Jalgaon district. Khadse is prominent leader of Maharashtra. He has been elected Member of the Legislative Assembly of Maharashtra State, representing Muktainagar, since, 1989. Khadse's father was a farmer. Khadse's native place is kothali. Kothali is a village on the banks of Purna river, near muktainagar. Khadse was a Sarpanch of Kothali village in 1987 and after that he became the member of legislative assembly from muktainagar constituency. Khadse worked for to solve the questions of maharashtra farmers and muktainagar vidhansabha khsetra.he had handled both finance and irrigation portfolios in the Shiv Sena-BJP regime of 1995-99.Going by experience, having served as MLA for six terms, Mr Khadse is now the senior-most leader in the party in Maharashtra. He has been handling the post of leader of opposition of the state Assembly since November 2010. His son, Nikhil Khadase, committed suicide on 1 May 2013.Mr Khadse was also among Frontrunners for the Maharashtra chief minister post after 2014 assembly elections.[3][4][5]

Corruption Charges and Resignation

Eknath Khadse resigned on June 3, 2016 after allegations of impropriety surfaced against him in a land deal in Pune. Khadse’s troubles had aggravated over the last 15 days after Pune-based realtor Hemant Gavande leveled serious charges of land grabbing against him. Gavande alleged that Khadse had misused his position as the state revenue minister to illegally execute sales deeds for a three-acre industrial plot at Bhosari in Pune district in the name of his wife and son-in-law. Khadse has denied the allegations and trmed them as conspiracy against him hatched by political rivals.[7]
