Ernestine Tiamzon (born May 4, 1997) is a Filipino-Canadian volleyball athlete. She played with De La Salle University collegiate women's varsity volleyball team.

Personal life

Tiamzon, also called as "Tin" or "Ernie" by her family and friends, was born in Koronadal, South Cotabato, Philippines. Though purely Filipino, she was raised in Canada since she was 8 years old when her family migrated to Burnaby, British Columbia in 2006. She is the youngest of 5 siblings. Her sister, Aika Tiamzon-Billena, was also a former DLSU Lady Spiker.[1] She went to Moscrop Secondary School[2] in Canada and played volleyball with the Apex U18 Club there.[3] Tiamzon was also a former band member in high school and can play the clarinet and the ukulele. She studie a Bachelor of Science in Business Management at De La Salle University.

Career

Tiamzon played basketball with the Moscrop Panthers, and was an Outside Hitter in her high school's volleyball varsity team.[4] With this team she won several awards from the sport throughout her high school years.[5][6]

In February 2015, she was initially invited by DLSU team managers, Raffy Villavicencio and Eric Ongkauko, to join the rigorous training of the DLSU Lady Spikers conducted by head coach Ramil de Jesus. In July 2015, she left Canada to study in DLSU and play for the DLSU Lady Spikers.[7][8][9]

Just a few months after arriving in the Philippines, she was assigned as the team's reserve player in the UAAP Season 78 Beach Volleyball tournament.[10] On her first playing year in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, their trio of seniors Kim Fajardo and Cyd Demecillo won the gold trophy in UAAP Beach Volleyball Championship, which was a first in La Salle's history.[11][12]

On her sophomore year, she served as the team captain in UAAP Season 79 Beach Volleyball tournament where her team-up with Desiree Cheng and Kim Fajardo brought DLSU to bronze finish.[13]
