An initial 47 entries competed to represent Moldova, with 24 being shortlisted to participate in the televised national final after auditioning in front of a jury panel.[1] After two semi-finals and a final which took place on 23, 25 and 27 February 2016, respectively, "Falling Stars" performed by Lidia Isac emerged as the winner after gaining the most points following the combination of votes from a jury panel and a public televote.[2] Isac performed the song during the first semi-final of the 2016 contest on 10 May, which was held at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden.[3] but failed to qualify to the May 14, 2016 final of the contest.
