Ford Mack Avenue Plant

The Mack Avenue Plant was the first facility operated by the Ford Motor Company starting in 1903. The company's first automobile, the original Ford Model A, was built at this location. About 18 months later in 1904, manufacturing operations were moved to the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant, where the Ford Model T would later be built. Henry Ford's previous business venture, the Henry Ford Company, built an automobile very similar to the 1903 Model A at a factory that was re-purposed. When the Henry Ford Company became the Cadillac Motor Company, the same facility was later called Detroit Assembly by GM until the factory was closed in 1987.

The Mack Avenue address was originally 588–592 Mack Avenue, when Ford occupied the building, and it is now 6520 Mack Avenue since Detroit renumbered the city's streets.[1] The location is approximately two miles (3.2 km) southeast of the original Dodge Brothers Factory, and approximately three miles (4.8 km) west of the Chrysler Jefferson North Assembly. It is approximately two miles (3.2 km) northeast of the original Olds Motor Vehicle Company in 1901.
