Fort Zumwalt West High School, the third high school established in the Fort Zumwalt School District, is located in O'Fallon, Missouri. First opened for the 1998–1999 school year, the school now has an approximate enrollment of 2,282 students with an average daily attendance rate of nearly 97%. The building was expanded in the early 2000s. There used to be a group of trailer parks called Trailorville, but they were removed in the 2011–2012 year. The district's first high school, now known as Fort Zumwalt North High School, was established in 1960.[1] The second high school to be established in the district was South High.

At the beginning of the 2007 school year, Fort Zumwalt East High School was opened to freshman and sophomore students. This helped relieve North and South High of excess students, and is expected to eventually balance the district's high schools enrollment.

Academics

The school's ACT scores averaged 21.9 in 2006, with 75.3% of graduates taking the test. The graduation rate remains around 91%, with 42% attending four year college/university, and 32% attending two year college/university. The dropout rate is 1.9%, as opposed to 4.0% at the state level.

With a little more than 100 teachers, around 63% have a master's degree or higher, and more than 96% have regular teaching certificates. They average 9.3 years of teaching experience. There is an average of 25 students per classroom.

Sports

Sports programs at the high school include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track, volleyball, wrestling, and football. The Fort Zumwalt West Women's soccer team won the school's first state title in the 2007 season. Danny Barger anchored the 3rd place 4x800 for the highest finish in school track history for the boys.
