The Mystery of the Pink Pearl

The Mystery of the Pink Pearl (Golapi Mukta Rahasya) is a Bengali detective story written by Satyajit Ray.^[1] Feluda is the protagonist of the story.It was first published in Sandesh (magazine), 1989.The story ranks 31st in Feluda series.^[2]

Synopsis

In the title story, a rare pink pearl surfaces in a little Bengal village, and the owner turns to Feluda for protection against the machinations of the sleuthýs old enemy, the devious Maganlal Meghraj. As the plot twists and turns, Feluda ends up in the sinister galis of Banaras, where he must outwit Maganlal once again to recover the pearl. Back in Calcutta to investigate the strange happenings at the Apsara Theatre Company, Feluda and his trusted aides foil the insidious plans of a clever murderer; and in Lucknow, where Feluda began his career, they recover a stolen antique necklace. On holiday in Kashmir, the intrepid trio find themselves confronted with the brutal killing of an ex-judge; while a bizarre request from an amnesia patient takes them through the streets of London, where they discover a secret left untouched for decades. Finally, in one of his most stunning deductions, Feluda finds the long-lost manuscript of a murdered psychiatrist and shikari. Replete with drama, suspense and Rayýs unique brand of quaint humour, this last collection of Feluda stories is a fitting adieu from the best-loved detective team in India.

Adaptation

The story was adapted into a telefilm "Golapi Mukta Rahasya"^[3] directed by Sandip Ray.^[4]
