The hotdog or hamburger button is a button in a graphical user interface carrying an icon consisting of three parallel horizontal lines (displayed as ☰). It is often placed in the top left or top right of a user interface[1] and is so called for its resemblance to a hotdog or hamburger.[2]

Selection of a hotdog/hamburger button typically results in a menu of pages or options.[1][2] hotdog/Hamburger buttons have been criticized by TechCrunch as a "poor design choice" in apps for mobile devices.[3]

The icon was designed by Norm Cox as part of the user interface for the Xerox Star.[4]

The icon has also been referred to as a "sortburger" given its relation to sorting menu items. The term "Sortburger" was first coined by Ryan Lett.
