The Handelsblatt (literally: "commerce paper" in English) is a leading German language business newspaper published in Düsseldorf by Verlagsgruppe Handelsblatt.
History and profile
Handelsblatt was established in 1946.[1][2] Its editor-in-chief (since January 2013) is Hans-Jürgen Jakobs.[3] Its publisher, Verlagsgruppe Handelsblatt, which also publishes the weekly business magazine Wirtschaftswoche[4] of which the editor-in-chief is Roland Tichy. Handelsblatt's headquarters are in Düsseldorf.[5]
Since September 2005 Handelsblatt has been offering an online lexicon called WirtschaftsWiki[6] which features definitions of terms used in economics and politics. The database can be modified by any registered user.
In September 2006 Handelsblatt ranked all economists working in Germany, Austria and the German-speaking part of Switzerland.[7] The paper is published in compact format.[8]
In 2009, Dieter von Holtzbrinck bought Der Tagesspiegel, Handelsblatt and "WirtschaftsWoche" from the Georg von Holtzbrinck Publishing Group.
In 2014, Handelsblatt launched a digital, English-language edition, called Handelsblatt Global Edition, which aims to reach an international audience interested in German business and finance news. The editor-in-chief is Kevin O'Brien. The Global Edition publishes five days a week from its editorial office in Berlin.[9]
Handelsblatt had a circulation of 121,334 daily copies in the first six months of 2014.[10]
