Hustad is a village (and former municipality) in Fræna Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It lies along the Hustadvika coastal area. The village of Hustad is located in the Nerland urban area which covers about 0.25 square kilometres (62 acres) and has a population (2013) of 249.[1]
Hustad is a thriving village with food stores, a bank, parking facilities, and several other businesses. Hustad has the Stemshest mountains to the east and there are five lakes nearby that are well-stocked with trout. There are also numerous hiking paths such as the Atlanterhavsveien just 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) away. Hustad Church is located in the village.
Municipality
Hustad Municipality existed from 1918 until 1964 when it was merged into Fræna Municipality. The municipality encompassed most of the northern part of the present-day Fræna Municipality. The village of Hustad was the administrative centre of the municipality of Hustad.
History
On 1 July 1918, Bud Municipality was divided into two separate municipalities: Bud (western part) and Hustad (eastern part). The initial population of the new Hustad municipality was 2,062. On 1 January 1964, the municipalities of Hustad and Bud were both incorporated into Fræna municipality to the south, forming a new, larger Fræna Municipality. Prior to the merger, Hustad had a population of 2,196.[3][4]
