The Indian Institute of Management Raipur, (Hindi: भारतीय प्रबंध संस्थान, रायपुर), also known as IIM Raipur, is a business school set up in 2010 by the Government of India at Raipur in the state of Chhattisgarh in India. It is the tenth Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the country. It was inaugurated by Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on 11 October 2010.[3]

Location

Raipur is the capital of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The classes of IIM Raipur are temporarily being conducted at the Government Engineering College(GEC), Sejbahar. The foundation stone for the new campus was laid on 5 May 2013 by the Union Minister of HRD MR. Pallam Raju. The new campus is coming up in Naya Raipur, the new capital city of the state on a budget of around 600 crores.[4][5][6]

Academics

Similar to the other IIMs, IIM Raipur currently offers diplomas in management. It offers the following full-time and part-time academic programmes.

Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP)

The Post-Graduate Programme in Management extends over a period of two years, involving six trimesters with a summer internship at an organization. The first year is dedicated to the foundations for the functional areas of management, such as Marketing, Finance, Operations, Human Resource etc. In the second year the student choose a major and a minor specialization for elective courses.[7]

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)

IIM Raipur has started the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM) from academic year 2012-13. FPM is a full-time doctoral programme that offers research scholars opportunities for advanced studies and research in different area of ‘management’. [8]

Post Graduate Programme in Management for Working Executive (PGPWE)

The Post Graduate Programme in Management for Working Executive (PGPWE) is an intensive one and a half year post graduate program in management, especially designed for mid/senior level professionals. The classes are held on weekends only with the duration of 12 hours a week.[9]

Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM)

Executive Fellow Program in Management (EFPM) is a unique doctoral programme in management specifically designed for working professionals with more than 10 years of work experience in industry. [10]

Management Development Programs

Management Development Programs (Open Programmes) are tied on faculty research, expertise knowledge diagonally to various disciplines of management and draw partakers from different organizations. These Programs are offered for Senior and Middle Level Managers of different Functional and interdisciplinary areas.

Customized (In-Company) Programmes

Customized (In-Company) Programmes are offered by the Institute and are designed, customized to meet the specific, precise needs of organizations [11]

Teaching

The teaching at IIM Raipur presents a mix of lectures, case studies, business games, simulation exercises, role plays, group discussions, field visits, and industry based projects.[12] The students receive guest lectures from personalities of the corporate world, e.g. Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, Duvvuri Subbarao[13] and Chairman & Managing Director of the Union Bank of India, Mavila Vishwanathan Nair.

Admission

Admission to the postgraduate course of IIM Raipur is through the Common Admission Test conducted in November each year.[14] In an effort to diversify the gender of students, a bonus 30 marks to the overall score are granted to each female candidate who is not an engineer.[15]

Infrastructure

The institute runs from the Government Engineering College campus in Sejbahar. The library at IIM Raipur subscribes to periodicals, news papers and journals like Harvard Business Review in particular. IIM Raipur subscribes to online resources such as ABI/ Inform Complete, Capitaline, EBSCO Business Source Complete, Prowess, Sciencedirect, Indiastat etc. The institute is a member of the Developing Library Network (DELNET) and the Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Sciences & Technology (INDEST).[19]

New Campus of IIM Raipur at Naya Raipur

The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Raipur was held on Sunday 5 May 2013 at village Pota Cheriya, Naya Raipur. Dr. M.M.Pallam Raju, Hon’ble Union Minister of Human Resource Development, Government of India, was the Chief Guest of the occasion with Dr Raman Singh, Hon’ble Chief Minister presiding over the function. The campus of IIM Raipur will come up on the 200 acres of land and will be one of the finest examples of state of the art campus planned with a blend of modernity and cultural heritage of Chhattisgarh. The campus will depict modern architecture and assimilate the culture and traditions of Chhattisgarh.The foundation stone laying ceremony marked the beginning of the establishment of the campus of IIM Raipur. The first phase of the campus will be functional from 2015-16.

Student Exchange

IIM Raipur has a large network of partner B-schools through which it conducts student exchange programs. For the Post graduate programme in management, the exchange program is carried out every year. The exchange council which is managed by students is responsible for coordinating with other colleges for conducting student exchange.. Campus life

Students conduct activities in addition to the curriculum. The clubs and committees formed in the institute are responsible for the planning and conducting of events covering interests such as Finance, Operations, and Marketing.

Finatix

FINATIX is a forum of likeminded enthusiasts willing to make their career in the high world of finance, and to bolster their knowledge continuously and share their knowledge with all the students who are interested in making their career in finance. The club organizes events where in the participants self assess their financial quotient and raise the bar every time. The club helps in identifying the individual financial strengths and seeks the guidance of experts on various aspects by way of industry interaction and fosters industry academia interaction. The club creates opportunities and provides a platform for simulation of real world scenarios so that each and every student is equipped with right kind of financial acumen.

The club aims to keep abreast with the current developments in the field of finance and focuses on research in areas such as financial markets, instruments, regulations, etc. The club operates under the guidance of esteemed faculty on key aspects of finance and latest trends. The club aims at providing outside the classroom learning opportunities in the field of finance, to arrange speaker sessions and workshops which encourage continuous learning and provide a platform to learn the elements which the industry looks out for. It seeks to connect with the industry in all possible ways to bridge the gap between industry and classroom.[20][21]

Pixel

Pixel is the omnipresent eye of IIM Raipur, the photography club which captures every activity that happens in the campus and preserves for the memory of its student body. They are the official photography team and cover the events and festivals that happen round the year.[22]

HRidhaan

The HR club 'HRidhaan' aims to create enlightened awareness about the discipline of Human Resources as a whole. The club organize quizzes, case studies, role-plays, workshops, seminars and activities on a regular basis to ensure a synergistic alliance between the theoretical body of discipline and its practical applications.[23][24]

Quizzing Club

The Quizzing Club at IIM Raipur organizes quizzes every week from topics ranging to sports, trivia, business, literature, entertainment, logos etc. The club maintains a blog where all the quizzes are uploaded.[25][26]

Consulting and Entrepreneurship Club

The Consulting and Entrepreneurship club at IIM Raipur is a student run initiative which strives to foster the spirit of entrepreneurship and to provide expertise in business management to corporate businesses.

The Club stands for

The students of IIM Raipur in the very first year provided insights to the Chhattisgarh government on various projects, some of them being "Promotion for Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum ", which showcases the rich tribal history and diversity of Chhattisgarh. The C&E club wishes to take this further and explore more avenues to work with the state government and extend their support for corporate businesses as well.


Another focus area is to stimulate the spirit of entrepreneurship amongst the students by providing a platform for interaction with industry experts and established entrepreneurs, and at the same time provide resources to help students pursue their ambitions. In an effort to create a sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem, we started ‘Aakash’ Start-up community which provides a networking platform for entrepreneurs and helps them address challenges in their start-ups. Also, this serves as a platform where students can understand how start-ups work, and gives them an opportunity to work closely with Entrepreneurs.

OPEP

OPEP stands for Operations, Production, Enterprises and Project Management. Its activities include releasing a bi-weekly newsletter, organizing team building exercises among students, industrial visits and guest lectures.[29][30]

Mantra

The Marketing Club plays the role of igniting the marketing instincts of the students and aims to emerge as the centre for creative thinking and innovation in marketing, which will ultimately facilitate the students to rise to the challenges of the global markets. The vision is to achieve the objective through on-campus club events and activities. These include quizzes, knowledge sharing sessions, case contests etc. The club also invites eminent personalities from industry and academia to deliver guest lectures where topics range from marketing basics to innovative practices and emerging trends.[31]

CUSP

CUSP is the convergence of the cultural and sports clubs of IIM Raipur. It aims to promote cultural and social awareness of values and tradition among all the students through various events, which include dance, drama, literature and an assortment of other forms of recognition of culture. It also aims to cater to the needs of sports enthusiasts via profusion of exhilarating events taking place throughout the year. The students are provided with an opportunity to put into practice their managerial skills and gain experiential learning through organizing creative, feisty and educational events that exemplify the various sides of the Indian Culture. CUSP is also responsible for assisting the administration in setting up processes and a system in place as the institute is new, which not only gives an entrepreneurial advantage for the members but also a unique learning experience.[32]

Kartavya

Kartavya is IIM Raipur's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) club. It consists of those students who strongly believe that every human being has a responsibility towards society and sustainable development can be achieved only by fulfilling that responsibility. They try to inculcate the same feelings in all the students of IIM Raipur by conducting various events and activities which will make the students realize how they can make a difference in society. Some of the activities which Kartavya has conducted include Eye Donation Registration Camps, Blood Donation Camps, Tree Plantation Drives, visits to orphanages, Newspaper recycling, etc. Being a part of Kartavya allows the students to develop their leadership, team building and project management skills through a well-designed CSR program. This is a substantial value addition to students apart from the satisfaction gained by their meaningful societal contribution.

Equinox

Equinox is the Annual National Level Business and Cultural Fest of IIM Raipur. The inaugural edition of Equinox was held on 12 March 2011. The 3rd Edition of EQUINOX was held from 17 - 19 February 2013.[33]

IIM Raipur concluded with its sixth installment of Equinox (Equinox 6.0) on 2 February 2016 amid growing fanfare. The flagship events of Equinox 6.0 like X-Quiz_IT, Udyam, Mudit Vriddhi, Socialis Procurator saw increased participation from B-School campuses across India.[34]

Research

A research subject IIM Raipur plans to focus on is Chhattisgarh’s natural resources and energy management. To this end the institute plans to hire a dozen or so researchers.[35]
