Venkatachalam Irai Anbu is an IAS officer, writer, columnist, educator and motivational speaker.[1] He has written over 30 books in both Tamil and English.[2][3]
Early and personal life
He was born on 16 September 1963 in Kattur Village, Salem district, Tamil Nadu. His Brother is also a civil services officer in Gujarat.
Education
- BSc (agriculture), M.A (English), M.A (Labor Management), MSc (Psychology), M B A., Hindi (Praveen,) PhD (Business Administration) and PhD in Comparative Literature (parallels in the works of Thiruvalluvar and Shakespeare)[2]
Career
After completing his BSc in Agriculture in 1984, he started his career as Agricultural Officer at Rayakottai, Denkanikottai taluk, Krishnagiri district. In his first Civil Services Examination he got Indian Revenue Service and trained as Income tax Assistant Commissioner.[2] In 1987 civil services examination, he got 15th rank in all India level and first place in Tamil Nadu.[2] After his training in Lal Bahadur Sastri National Academy of Administration, he became sub collector in 1990.[4] He was the District collector of Kancheepuram District (1997–1999).[4] He had previously worked as Principal Secretary to the Government for Tamil Nadu Environment and Forests Department, Tamil Nadu Tourism and Culture department & Chairman of Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation. He is currently the Principal Secretary to the Department of Economics and Statistics[5]
