Jason John Lowe (born 2 September 1991) is an English professional footballer who plays for Blackburn Rovers. He has played much of his career as a midfielder, but he has also been used as a right back.[2]
Raised in Leigh, Lowe has spent most his career at Blackburn Rovers, making his debut in 2011, and cementing his place in the first team in the same year.
Lowe made his international debut for the England Under-20 team, in 2011, and represented his country as captain at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup, as well as making his U-21 debut on 10 October 2011.
Early career
Lowe joined the Academy of Blackburn Rovers when he was 12 and had progressed to the Reserves when he signed his first professional contract with Blackburn on 4 September 2009.[3] On 8 January 2011, Lowe made his senior debut for Blackburn in the 1–0 win over QPR in the FA Cup.[4] On 15 January 2011, he made his Premier League debut, as a 24th-minute substitute for the injured David Dunn, in the 2–0 loss to Chelsea.[5] He was set to join Aberdeen on loan in January 2011 before the deal fell through due to injuries in the Blackburn first team.[6]
Club career
Oldham Athletic
On 24 March 2011, Lowe was signed by Oldham Athletic on loan until the end of the season.[7] Lowe made his debut for Oldham against Tranmere Rovers on 28 March 2011.[8] Lowe scored his first goal for the club with a penalty in the 2–0 win against Notts County on 3 April 2011.[9] On 25 April 2011, Lowe scored late on to help Oldham secure a 1–1 draw with Walsall.[10] Lowe finished his loan spell having played seven games and scoring two goals.
Blackburn Rovers
Lowe's first appearance for Blackburn after returning from his loan came in the League Cup second round win against Sheffield Wednesday on 24 August 2011.[11] He then made his first league appearance of the season, as a substitute for Ruben Rochina, against Fulham on 11 September 2011.[12] His first ever league start in a Blackburn shirt came a week later on 17 September 2011 against Arsenal.[13] On 27 October 2011, it was reported that Lowe has signed a five-year contract with Blackburn.[2] In 2012 he signed a contract extension keeping him at Ewood park till 2017.[14]He scored his first league goal for the club in a 1–0 win against Middlesbrough.[15] On 6th of August 2016 he captained rover's for the first time in a 4-1 defeat against Norwich City
International career
Lowe was called into a training camp for England U-19 after impressing for Blackburn in the Academy and reserves and was on stand-by for the U-19 which travelled to Ukraine for the European Under-19 Football Championship Elite Qualifying Round.[16] Lowe was selected for England U-19 for the European Under-19 Football Championship Finals in July 2010,[17] but he eventually missed out due to injury.[18]
Lowe made his debut for England U-20 in a friendly against France on 9 February 2011.[18][19][20] It was his only cap before he captained England U-20 at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia in the summer of 2011, where they were knocked out in the last 16.[18]
On 10 October 2011, Lowe made his debut for England U-21 in a 2–1 win against Norway U-21 in a Euro 2013 qualifier.[21]
