Jose B. Gonzalez is a Latino poet and educator.

He is the author of the poetry collection, Toys Made of Rock (Bilingual Review Press, 2015),[1] and the Co-Editor of the major work, Latino Boom: An Anthology of U.S. Latino Literature. He was born in San Salvador, El Salvador in 1967, where he lived until he was eight. He and his family then moved to New London, Connecticut. He is a graduate of New London High School,[2] Bryant University with a Bachelor of Science, Brown University with a Masters in Teaching English, and the University of Rhode Island with a Ph.D. in English. He is an alumnus of the Macondo Writers Workshop founded by Sandra Cisneros. As of December 2011 he is a professor of English at the United States Coast Guard Academy, in New London.[3]

He has appeared as a guest poet on Univision and American Latino TV. He also appeared in Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education and on National Public Radio (NPR).[4]

His poetry has been published in Quercus Review, Callaloo, The Teacher's Voice, Palabra, Acentos Review, and Colere, and anthologies including Coloring Book, Nantucket: A Collection, and Latino Boom: An Anthology of U.S. Latino Literature, and Ocho.[5] He founded LatinoStories.com.[6]

Gonzalez has been a featured speaker throughout the country including at Fairfield University in CT,[18] Rutgers University[19] in New Jersey, Pittsburg State University in Kansas,[20] Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX,[21] Cornell University [22] in New York, Connecticut College,[23] The Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian[24] in Washington DC, at festivals such as the Newburyport Literary Festival,[25] and the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival.[26] He has also presented his poetry in countries such as El Salvador and Spain.[27]
