Biographical notes
Graduated magna cum laude in Architecture at Politecnico di Milano in 1991. He is contract professor at Faculty od Architecture and Society at Politecnico di Milano since 2009 . He started his professional practice in 1992. In 2001 he studied Film Directing in New York Film Academy. In 2005 he redefined his studio as "AM project - Joseph di Pasquale Architects" starting the international activities.[1]
Career
He claims the lack of identity in contemporary globalized architecture and he considered himself a seeker of new interpretations for the contemporary city (the "dense city" concept) in order to identify a relationship between urban density and cultural identity in the urban fabric and architecture.[2] Since 2008, he produces an intense cultural dissemination activity with lectures and conferences in Italy, China, Russia and United States. In a conference "La città si-cura" (the safe city) held in Italy in 2010, he said that "the contemporary city is no longer able to generate significant urban space because the modern architecture has abandoned the idea of "facade", which means the idea to orient the buildings, therefore the city no longer looks toward its space, but it's composed by architectures that are meant to be looked upon as a sculpture or an object[3]". In 2013, he declares to the Il Sole 24 Ore that contemporary Chinese society and architecture are "seeking the contemporary transposition of its millenary tradition[4]". Moreover he's the author of many articles of "L'Arca" paper magazine.[5]
Competitions won and projects
His projects won several national and international competitions of architecture,[6] among which the Tianjin Eco Town[7] and the Guangzhou Circle, opened in 2013, that CNN listed in the 10 most interesting buildings that will appear in 2014 worldwide.[8] Other relevant projects are several Gewiss factories, the main factories of Intercos, Polini, Valsir, Aerea and the project of new entertainment park of Minitalia Leolandia in Turate (Italy).[9]
