KGAF began in 1947, originally owned by the Leonard Brothers. It is located at 401 N. Radio Hill Road (FM 3092) east of Gainesville. At one time 94.5 FM was paired with KGAF and broadcast from a 400-foot tower on Radio Hill. The FM was sold and moved in the 1980s. The 400 foot tower was split into two 200 foot towers in the mid-1980s for a directional nighttime pattern used until 2016. In 2016 the south tower was no longer used as the FCC granted a power increase to 1,200 watts non-directional daytime and 275 non-directional nighttime on the north tower.
KGAF's signal can be heard throughout North Texas and Southern Oklahoma during daytime hours, reaching from Davis, Oklahoma to Dallas Fort Worth and from Bonham, Texas to Nocona, Texas. The nighttime signal covers Cooke County and extends to surround counties as well, listenable in Ardmore Oklahoma, Sherman-Denison, and Denton.
Today, KGAF is a full service community oriented radio station serving the Cooke County area. Outside of news/talk programming, KGAF features a Gold-Based Adult Contemporary format.
Recent Arbitron County ratings show KGAF #1 in Adults 25+ in Cooke County among the 30+ signals heard in the area.
The radio station is operated by Eberhart Broadcasting owner Steve Eberhart.
