Kentucky Route 238 (KY 238) is a rural secondary east–west state highway that traverses northern Edmonson County in west-central Kentucky.

Route description

KY 238 starts at a junction with KY 185 near Big Reedy, which is about five miles (8.0 km) north of Roundhill. It traverses the Big Reedy Creek twice, because the first four miles (6.4 km) of KY 238 is a loop around Big Reedy, and it intersects KY 185 for a second time, and runs concurrently with KY 185 for 0.2 miles (0.32 km).

KY 238 continues east and intersects KY 187 (Sunfish Road) at Sunfish, and KY 238 runs concurrency with that route also for about 0.8 miles (1.3 km). KY 238 splits from KY 187 and heads east, while KY 187 continues north towards Grayson County. KY s238 crosses the Bear Creek and then ends in Bee Spring at an intersection with KY 259.

History

KY 238 began existence solely as an access road to Big Reedy Lake near the unincorporated community of Big Reedy. [2]At pone point between 1937 and 1958, KY 238 expanded to include Sunfish School Road, which would connect Big Reedy with the KY 187 corridor, as well as another extension to serve as a loop that goes back to KY 185. [3] KY 238 was expanded once again to run concurrent with KY 187, and utilize Sunfish-Bee Spring Road to connect with KY 259 at Bee Spring sometime between 1960 and 1977.
