Langar Houz

Langar Houz is a suburb of Hyderabad, located near Golconda. It is a major commercial center for some villages on that part of the city.

History

Langar means "a chain used to tether an elephant".[1] As per legends a golden langar was donated to a Muslim recluse by a Queen. Later this langar was cut into small pieces and distributed amongst various Muslim holy men. This is carried out every year on fifth day of Moharram as Langar Procession.[2]

Cantonment

There is a Military Hospital and a central school Kendriya Vidyalaya Golconda No.1 at Langar House. It has become a gateway to around 20 engineering colleges as the students stay in rented apartments or houses.This is only a place where state CM and Governor visit twice a year to tribute Laurels to our Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Bapu Ghat, where final ashes of Gandhi are poured at the union of Musi and Esi rivers. There is also very old qutub shahi jamai masjid on the road of fathe darwaza and a temple of Lord Sriram is located on the rout of Bapu ghat at Langer house.

Langer houz is located on the bank of River Musi, and is home to the sangam of Musi and Esi rivers. River musi carries water from Osman Sagar lake and River esi carries the water from Himayat Sagar lake.

Langer houz has an important intersection of roads, Golkonda fort Road, Mehdipatnam Road, Sangam road and Old City Road.

There is a kendriya Vidhalaya No 1, Golconda also located in Langer Houz.
