The federal constituency was created in the 2005 redistribution and is mandated to return a single member to the Dewan Rakyat under the first past the post voting system.

2008–2016: The constituency contains the polling districts of Ranggau, Sebukang, Tabahan, Bangkita, Limbang, Poyan, Bukit Kota, Pendam, Telahak, Berawan, Danau, Lubai, Ukong, Medihit, Medamit.
